Draw something that makes you happy with Johnny Vegas

Johnny Vegas asks us to draw what makes us happy – part of DRAW! supported by David Hockney.

Published: November 4, 2025

DRAW! supported by David Hockney is a nationwide project to get everyone drawing.

In November, writer, director, comedian and artist Johnny Vegas is encouraging us all to draw something that make us happy.

Johnny Vegas is a writer, director and comedian known for his alter-egos, surreal humour and unique voice. Recognised for his work in TV and film, Johnny is also a celebrated contemporary artist.

Working with ceramics, print and found objects, in recent years Johnny has exhibited at the British Ceramics Biennial, The Walker Art Gallery, Bluecoat Display Centre, Blackmore Gallery and Liverpool Independents Biennial.

His work often responds to his “accursed blessing” of ADHD. “I’ve a head full of butterflies and all of them designed with unique intentions of distraction from the task at hand,” Johnny says. “When I think to exhibit I’m compelled to try and recreate in clay or oil what I’ve caught in my net that day… before it is once more set free to distract me from the hurried and sometimes ill constructed expectations of normality.”

I see something beautiful in a shape. Some folk don’t get it, family or friends often make fun of my weirdness, but as a loner I’ve learnt to find beauty, mutual appreciation and ultimately inspiration from the inanimate.
