See detailed itineraries and plan your day out at The Railway Children

You’ll begin by taking the steam train from Keighley Station to Oxenhope Station along the historic Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. The journey takes around 20 minutes. When you arrive at Oxenhope Station, you’ll have around 30 minutes to explore the historic station and grab a bite to eat and drink before the show begins in our custom-built auditorium. Following the show, you’ll then take the steam train back to Keighley Station.

Itinerary - Matinee Performances
  • From 11.10am – Arrive at Keighley Station. The train departs from Platform 4 – please arrive with plenty of time.
  • 11.45am – Steam train departs Keighley Station to Oxenhope.
  • 12.10pm – Steam train arrives in Oxenhope.
  • 1pm – Performance starts, including interval.
  • 3.20pm – Performance ends.
  • 4.10pm – Steam train departs Oxenhope to Keighley.
  • 4.30pm – Steam train arrives in Keighley.

  • From 4.30pm – Arrive at Keighley Station. The train departs from Platform 4 – please arrive with plenty of time.
  • 5.15pm – Steam train departs Keighley Station to Oxenhope.

  • 6.30pm – Performance starts, including interval.
  • 8.50pm – Performance ends.
  • 9.15pm – Steam train departs Oxenhope to Keighley.

The whole experience, including both train journeys, takes around four hours.

The show lasts around 2 hours 20 minutes, including an interval.

When should I arrive at Keighley Station?

We recommend you arrive at Keighley Station at least 30 minutes before your train is due to depart. After you’ve checked in have a look around the station and the new visitor centre in the Water Tower. Boarding will start around 20 minutes before your train departs and there will be opportunities to buy drinks and food on the platform and drinks on the train.

Matinee performances (performance start: 1pm)

Train departs from Keighley to Oxenhope at 11.45 am

Train departs from Oxenhope to Keighley at 4.10 pm

 

Evening performances (performance start: 6.30pm)

Train departs from Keighley to Oxenhope at 5.15pm

Train departs from Oxenhope to Keighley at 9.15pm

What will happen if I arrive late for my train?

The train will leave at the time shown on your ticket. If you’re late, you’ll need to make your own way to Oxenhope station. Please bear in mind there is only Blue Badge parking at Oxenhope station.

Does my ticket price include the train journeys?

Yes – all tickets include the performance and the two steam train rides between Keighley and Oxenhope.

Can I skip the train journeys and make my own way to Oxenhope to watch the show?

You can, but you’d be missing out on a very special part of the experience! Please note that if you choose to make your own way to Oxenhope, your ticket price will remain the same – you won’t receive a discount if you choose not to travel on the steam train. Please note that the only parking available at Oxenhope is Blue Badge parking which is bookable in advance through our ticketing team.

Car parking in Keighley

There is no pre-booked, reserved parking available for The Railway Children.

There are a limited number of parking spaces at Keighley College (60 spaces, a 2 minute walk to Keighley Station) and Victoria Hall (110 spaces, a 10-15 minute walk to Keighley Station). These car parks are first come, first served and only available during specific dates and times – see below.

You can also park in one of the Bradford Council paid car parks in Keighley – check their website for information. Please note any car park closure times and check The Railway Children itineraries to ensure you can return to your car in time after your steam train returns to Keighley Station after the performance.

Parking at Keighley College

We have arranged a small number of dedicated car parking spaces for The Railway Children at Keighley College car park. These spaces are free of charge but they are not pre-booked and are available on a first come, first served basis.

Please note: Keighley College car park will be unavailable for matinee performances on Wednesday 27 August, Thursday 28 August and Thursday 4 September.

For the matinee performance on Thursday 24 July there will be very limited spaces in Keighley College car park.

Parking at Victoria Hall

We have arranged a small number of dedicated car parking spaces for The Railway Children at Victoria Hall car park. These spaces are free of charge but they are not pre-booked and are available on a first come first served basis.

Please note this car park is a 10-15 minute walk away from Keighley Station. Ensure you plan ahead to include time to walk from the car park to the station before your steam train departs.

Blue Badge parking

There is a very limited pre-booked Blue Badge parking at Keighley Station and at Oxenhope Station for people with disabilities. Contact [email protected] to find out more about this and book a space.

Accessibility

Some performances of The Railway Children will have access provision available – including BSL Interpretation, Captioning and Audio Description. Check our website for information about this or contact  [email protected] with any questions about accessibility.

Toilets

There are toilet facilities, including accessible toilets at both Keighley and Oxenhope stations, but please note that there are no toilets on board the steam trains.

At Oxenhope, there is an accessible toilet on the station platform with baby changing facilities. All toilets inside Oxenhope Station are on the ground level with no steps. Additional toilets (including hired temporary toilets) may have steps – please ask a member of staff at either Keighley or Oxenhope Station if you have any questions about toilets.

 

Blue Badge parking

There is a very limited pre-booked Blue Badge parking at Keighley Station and at Oxenhope Station for people with disabilities. Contact [email protected] to find out more about this and book a space.

Food and drink

You will be able to purchase food at both Keighley Station and Oxenhope Station.

The Old Parcels Office will be open at Keighley Station for sit-down (not take-away) meals, serving a full menu of food and drinks. You will be able to refill water bottles at both stations through the catering facilities.

Eating and drinking is permitted on both train journeys.

In Oxenhope you’ll be able to come in and out of the theatre before and after the show to pick up some delicious takeaway food and drink – see more information below.

Keighley: The Old Parcels Office

Before your theatre train departs, pre-book and get a good feed at The Old Parcels Office, where their full menu is served to satisfy every appetite. With limited seating, booking in advance is essential to secure your spot. Enjoy a delicious meal in this historic setting before your journey begins!

Oxenhope: Perks Pies - The Pie Shop

Step off the platform and into pie heaven! In honour of The Railway Children, The Pie Shop at Oxenhope proudly serves hearty handmade pies brimming with comfort, character, and Yorkshire charm.

Choose from Steak & Ale, Steak & Devon Blue Cheese, Chicken, Ham Hock & Leek, Butternut Squash, Mixed Bean & Cheese or Cauliflower, Spinach & Balti.

All pies are served piping hot with a generous ladle of rich vegan, gluten-free gravy – included in the price.

Oxenhope: Mrs. Viney’s Pantry

Inspired by the beloved classic, our charming snack shop is packed with fun and flavour for all ages. Tuck into fluffy candy floss, classic pick ‘n’ mix sweets, warm buttery popcorn, and cheesy nachos.

Oxenhope: The Waterbury Inn

Before the curtain rises, why not enjoy a drink at our pop-up bar just outside the theatre entrance?

They’ll be serving hand-pulled ales, chilled bottled beers and ciders, a selection of wines, and classic soft drinks. It’s the perfect way to set the mood before the performance begins. Sip, chat, and soak up the atmosphere – we’ll see you at the bar!
