The Great Adventure Build – FAQs
Useful information about The Great Adventure Build
What is The Great Adventure Build?
The Great Adventure Build is a unique construction project where the children are in charge. We’ll provide the tools – hammers, saws, nails and a truckload of wood – and the children provide the imagination. Supported by the team at Woodland Tribe, the UK’s masters of constructive play, they’ll get to build their very own epic play space… and then try it out for size.
What can you expect?
Families will be given a safety briefing at the start of the session and then given tools and access to wood so they can start building. Families can add to the evolving structure or build something of their own, or they can simply have fun playing on the play structure. Skilled and experienced Woodland Tribe crew will be on site to support families with building.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session time so you can have your tickets checked and listen to the health and safety briefing.
What if I'm late?
You may be refused entry to The Great Adventure Build if you miss too much of the safety briefing, so allow plenty time to get to the site.
What is the health and safety briefing?
The health and safety briefing is absolutely essential and lasts for around 10-15 minutes. It will be delivered verbally with demonstrations on tool use by a member of the Woodland Tribe team. The briefing is delivered in English. It covers how to use a hammer and saw safely, how to carry wood safely, what risks to look out for, what not to do with tools and who to go to for help.
What do I need to consider around health and safety?
All children need to be supervised by an adult, everyone needs to adhere to the safety briefing and to be mindful of others working in the area. Whilst we encourage creativity, if Woodland Tribe staff feel something unsafe is happening we will step in.
As a parent, how involved should I be?
Woodland Tribe believe in co-production, this is a space for working together. We ask that adults support their young people but don’t wrap them up in cotton wool or take over.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing. The Great Adventure Build takes place outside, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
What is the Regulation Station?
Woodland Tribe aim to make our activities as inclusive as possible to all families and young people. Our Regulation Station is a sensory area at our build projects so if needed young people have a space to regulate. The area offers a range of sensory spaces/toys/activities to support regulation. It is run by skilled and experienced staff and numbers of young people in the area at any one time are limited.
