Look back on this celebration of the legacy and impact of the 1 in 12 Club

For Bradford 2025, Capsule (Home of Metal) worked in partnership with the 1 in 12 Club and its members past and present to celebrate the legacy and impact of the club and to share its story.

The 1 in 12 Club has a dual usage: referring to both the members’ club and the building in which it is based in Bradford. Formed in 1981, the club moved into the building in 1988 – which is owned and run by its members as a collective based upon anarchist principles. Its activities include social and political campaigning, and the building is used as a self-managed social centre; acting as host for a range of arts activities, gigs and sports clubs.

After over 4 decades of activity, the 1 in 12 Club is partnering with Capsule (Home of Metal) on a project to bring together their community: the members, the bands and the people for whom the club has had a special place in their hearts.

In Home of Metal’s previous exhibitions and events, they have acted as a connector between music, social history, visual art and fan cultures to produce a new perspective on music culture: one that is celebratory, uniting audiences and performers.

Everything for Everyone!

Capsule’s Home of Metal and Bradford 2025 joined forces for Everything for Everyone! an all-day celebration of resistance and cooperation in honour of the city’s anarchist social centre: the 1 in 12 Club.

About the project

This project aims to collect memories and related ephemera relating to the community of the 1 in 12 Club to inform a series of podcasts and publication to share the history, legacy and values of the club.

In addition, artist Black Lodge Press have been commissioned to work with volunteers to co-create a set of banners in response to the values of the club.

The project will culminate in a weekend of live events, talks and workshops that explore and celebrate anarchist values of self-management, co-operation, and mutual aid while reflecting on what that means in today’s landscape.
