Bradford 2025 encourages people to take a seat and tune into audio artworks
Published June 17, 2025
CHANNELS is collection of sound-art pieces created by collaborative duo Turbynes, inspired by three human-made bodies of water across Bradford District.
Made in response to each site, CHANNELS features voices, field recordings and original music. Audiences will be able to tune into stories, soundscapes and musings – an invitation to slow down, listen and enjoy these unique places.
CHANNELS will run throughout the Summer of 2025 with benches and their matching audio works located at Bingley Five Rise Lock, Chellow Dean Reservoir, and the Mirror Pool in City Park. The audio works will be accessible via QR codes, located next to the benches. Each QR code needs to be scanned by a smartphone or tablet, and will lead to webpages with more information on the inspiration behind the benches and the sound pieces.
Turbynes have been working with the three locations over recent months, immersing themselves in the process of sound recording (including ambisonic and hydrophonic), creative writing, music making, historical research, interviews, and collaborations with a variety of other local artists. The resulting artworks are a diverse collection of atmospheric listening experiences.
