Meet Our Mothers is a very special collection of treasured family recipes from across Bradford District, compiled especially for Bradford 2025 by artist Deepa Mann-Kler – and we’re looking for your recipes to include in it.
This is your chance to tell us all about a dish that’s special to you and your family, and the story behind it. We want to hear about recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation – food that brings together families, friends and communities, and that celebrates Bradford District’s status as a true hotpot of cultural cuisine.
Send us your recipe using the form below no later than Sunday 9 December. We’ll then choose 10 recipes to be included in Meet Our Mothers, an interactive cookbook featuring 50 Bradford recipes due to be published in autumn 2025.
What kind of recipe can I submit?
Anything! We’re looking for recipes that celebrate the people, communities and flavours of Bradford District – recipes that may have been passed down through generations, telling the stories of our district and the people who are proud to call it home. We want to showcase your love of food and hear the heritage behind what makes your recipe special to you.
Do I need to be a resident of Bradford District?
Yes. Meet Our Mothers is a celebration of the people and communities of Bradford District, and so we’re only accepting recipes from people with a Bradford District postcode.
I’m under 18 – can I take part?
Yes, but you’ll need to have permission from a parent or guardian and they will need to submit your recipe form on your behalf.
Who will be choosing the recipes to be included in the book?
The book is being compiled by artist Deepa Mann-Kler, working together with Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
What happens if my recipe is chosen to feature in Meet Our Mothers?
If that’s you, congratulations! We’ll contact you to hear more about you and your recipe. We’ll then arrange for you to join us and make your recipe in the Meet Our Mothers test kitchen, when you’ll be filmed and photographed for the book. We will work with you to make your recipe look as beautiful as possible. The process will take a maximum of eight hours of your time.
Will I be paid?
We’ll pay your expenses and provide refreshments on the filming day, but you won’t be paid a fee for your contribution.
When will Meet Our Mothers be published?
Meet Our Mothers will be published in autumn 2025.
