Call Out: Band in a Day
Take part in Band in a Day!
Deadline: 13 March 2025
Bradford 2025 is looking for up to 40 participants to take part in creating a brand-new band, in just one day. Brought to the Bradford District by Oi Musica, Band in a Day is a part of The Big Brass Blowout, a celebration of the best in brass. Oi Musica are one of the UK’s leading street band organisations and will work with players to create Bradford’s newest brass band!
Band in a Day is a free event open to anyone aged 10+ who already plays a brass or reed instrument, or who would like to play percussion. If you sign up and are selected you will be taking part in a music-making workshop with members of Oi Musica’s street band, Golden Grooves Street Collective, and get the chance to perform with them later that day, and experience the joy of bringing music to people and playing music together!
We’re looking for up to 20 brass or reed players, and up to 20 percussion players. Participants will meet for the first time on 12 April in a morning workshop with Oi Musica’s team and learn 1-2 songs together and then perform later that day as part of The Big Brass Blowout . Participants must be over 10 years of age.
FAQs
Do I need any experience?
We expect brass and reed players to have played regularly, or have had lessons for at least 6 months, and be able to play a full piece of music. Anyone looking to join the drum and percussion section can be a complete beginner.
When is the workshop and performance?
Both the workshop and performance will take place on Saturday 12 April, in Bradford city centre. The full schedule and details will be sent in advance, but we’ll need participants to be available between 10am and 4pm.
How will you select who gets to take part?
Participants will be selected to ensure we have a mixture of musical instruments, and good spread across the Bradford District. As with all Bradford 2025 participation opportunities, priority will be given to applicants living within the district.
Will instruments be provided?
If you play a brass or reed instrument, you will need to bring this instrument with you. We will provide a range of instruments for drum and percussion players.
Who can apply?
We welcome applications from people of all ages and backgrounds, provided they are over 10 years old. Bradford 2025 is committed to ensuring accessibility and removing barriers to participation. If you have specific access needs, let us know, and we will do what we can to accommodate them.
Is there a cost to take part?
This opportunity is free to participate in!
Will I be paid?
This is an unpaid opportunity. We will cover travel expenses within the Bradford District.
Why isn’t this paid?
Band in a Day is a participatory opportunity, which invites people of various musical experience and skill levels to create something together. This means there may be a range of people, from complete beginners to players who perform their instrument regularly to an audience. This kind of workshop and the way it is run with such a mix of people is how we categorise this opportunity as participatory, rather than a paid professional performance opportunity.
