Summer Sounds: Sunday
Nitin Sawhney and Poppy Ajudha topped the bill for day two of our Beacon music weekender.
Sunday at The Beacon brought some serious Summer Sounds for our boutique music festival.
Together with Serious, we brought together a packed line-up of artists whose music knows no boundaries – from singer-songwriters, poets and soul divas to DJs, producers and big bands who mix afrobeat, drum ’n’ bass, jazz and much more. It was the perfect soundtrack to a summer Sunday in Bradford.
Summer Sounds Sunday featured:
- Nitin Sawhney, multi-award-winning musician, composer and producer
- Poppy Ajudha, ace singer-songwriter from South London by way of Saint Lucia
- Joshua Idehen, spoken word artist, musician and collaborator with the likes of Sons of Kemet
- Summer Pearl, soul singer and superstar-in-waiting
- Sarathy Korwar, drummer, composer, producer and bandleader, fusing jazz, electronics, Indian folk and classical influences
- TC & the Groove Family, the mighty Leeds 10-piece blending afrobeat, breakbeat, highlife and hip hop
- Kenzo Jae, Bradford-born singer and rapper mixing indie and punk with old school hip hop
- TAWIAH, alternative-soul singer and songwriter, who has collaborated with the likes of Devonte Hynes, Kindness, Mark Ronson, Cinematic Orchestra and Kano
- Yasmeen, Jordan-born, Leeds-based DJ, sound artist and cultural producer
- Harry Rook, playing soulful selections with no judgement of styles or forms
- DJ Lubi, leading light in salsa and Latin jazz
