Island of Foam: Version XXXX
Stephanie Lüning
Celebrate Playday in City Park with a monumental explosion of multicoloured foam…
Come and see Centenary Square as you’ve never seen it before – transformed by mountains of Technicolor foam.
Island of Foam: Version XXXX is the spectacular creation of German artist Stephanie Lüning, whose large scale painting actions change how we look at familiar public spaces. At 2pm and 4pm on 6 August, she’ll be flooding Centenary Square with foam, creating a dynamic art installation in real time as a huge kaleidoscope of colour sweeps across the square.
You can watch the transformation from the safety of the pavement across from City Hall – and when it’s complete, you can jump right in. Island of Foam: Version XXXX takes place on Playday, the UK’s national day for play, and when the artwork is complete, Lüning will invite us to get up close and personal with it by diving into the foam. Bring a camera – and maybe a towel…
