Historic Guided Walking Tour

Heritage Hub

A fun local history tour journeying between two time zones.

Event Details
Date 20 Sep 2025
Times 1-3pm
Location Meet at Saltaire United Reformed Church
Ages All ages
Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult

This factual and fun walking tour from Heritage Hub is led by not one but two costumed guides from different time zones.

First you’ll meet Pollie Toothill, Saltaire Victorian, who will give you a potted history of Saltaire, telling you the story of the village – including her own tale, plus a scandal or two – and all about Sir Titus Salt. You might also meet one or two other villagers from this time.

Then, crossing the bridge over the river to the park, you’ll say goodbye to Victorian Saltaire and board the Time Machine, AKA the 130-year old Shipley Glen Tramway, riding through the magical glen and time-travelling forward to Edwardian England.

There you’ll meet the next guide, Nell Kenney, the forgotten Bingley Suffragette, who will take you to the site of the ‘monster’ Suffragette rally where up to 100,000 people gathered in 1908. Nell will tell you her story and that of her sisters, in particular her younger and more famous sister Annie, who caught the eye of the then Prime Minister.
