Both pieces take very different approaches to the task of creating vibrant and meaningful artworks of scale that can help to revitalise spaces, celebrate diversity and promote pride in the city.

Intended to allow for a variety of artistic expression and community ownership, whilst linking artworks with themes relevant to Bradford, its people and heritage, the Darley St Market project has drawn together wildly different techniques and styles. The end result is two vibrant, culturally rich and community-focused artworks tailor-made for the site in question.

About Harvest of Harmony

The title captures the core of this mural, which is a vibrant celebration of fresh produce, community, and the shared joy of food, all hallmarks of Darley Street Market. The mural’s interconnected motifs represent fresh produce like fruits, vegetables, grains, fish and bread. These elements show the diversity of Bradford’s communities and the global food heritage represented within the market.

This commission speaks directly to my passion for creating vibrant, culturally rich, and community-focused artworks that celebrate identity, food, and shared heritage.

Artist Ruth Agbolade says: “I want the mural to make people happy, nostalgic and curious. It should bring joy to both long-time residents and newcomers who come together to enjoy food.”

About City of Dreams

‘City of Dreams’ celebrates the city’s evolving identity by highlighting a freshly designed landmark sign. Bold, urban-inspired typography, painted using traditional spray paint techniques, anchors the piece and brings an energetic, contemporary feel to the space. The inclusion of Bradford’s iconic buildings silhouettes ties the concept together, creating a strong sense of place and pride. This mural reflects the spirit of renewal, community, and creativity that defines the market’s new chapter, both for young and older audience.

Artist Mod One says: “Mixing traditional techniques with fast paced technology helped me to explore and showcase my skills to the public.”

About the artists

Ruth Agbolade is a Bradford-based multidisciplinary artist, photographer, painter/muralist and a sculptor. Her art combines vibrant, mosaic-like patterns with abstract forms to tell stories about hope, redemption and faith. She also creates sculptures from discarded materials such as paper boxes, bringing sustainability into her practice.

For Ruth, it’s all about telling meaningful stories and creating work that connects with people on a deeper level.

Kamil (AKA Mod One) is a 27-year-old Bradford illustrator and graffiti artist who came from Poland when he was seven years old. After living in Bradford for over 20 years, he now calls it his home.
