Flock at the Thornton Winter Warmer

Nelson & Woodward

A new sculpture work inspired by Thornton’s rich industrial past

Event Details
Date 22 Nov 2025
Times 3pm
Location Thornton Viaduct

Join us for the exciting launch of Flock, a bold new sculpture by artists Nelson & Woodward, created in collaboration with young people and inspired by Thornton’s rich industrial past.

A Bradford 2025 Community Award project.

About the project

This imaginative new work takes the form of a rollercoaster, with carriages shaped like sheep and tracks that twist and turn like life itself — playful, unpredictable, and full of meaning. Featuring bronze maggots, woodwork, and placards created by local young people, Flock brings together history, identity, and youthful energy in one striking installation.
At its heart, Flock is a celebration of young voices — their ideas, power, and place in shaping public space. Come witness the placards fly, hear the music, and share in a moment that’s both fun and profound.
Following the launch at 3pm, stay for an afternoon of hot soup & live DJ set from Esther Hill at Junction Lodge Café, from 3:30pm.
The launch will coincide with the Thornton Winter Warmer, a community collaboration by South Square Centre, Creative Communities, Thornton Community Centre and Sapgate Gardens. A full day of free events and workshops includes: craft workshops, choirs, light up sculptures, mulled wine, free food, live painting, puppet shows and more!
