Welcome to Wild Uplands
This visual story is to help you plan your trip. Come and explore the Wild Uplands sculpture trail in the beautiful setting of Penistone Hill Country Park, Haworth. Information about how to get here is on the website.

Entering Wild Uplands
This visual guide starts at the large car park off Moorside Lane.

Turn onto the gravel road at the signpost and drive up to the car park.

From the car park you can see one of the sculptures, Tower.

Walk across the car park towards the entrance sign to Wild Uplands.

Walk down the path beside the Wild Uplands sign.
You’ll pass this building next to the footpath, keep following the path, and it will lead you onto Penistone Hill.

Tower
As you walk you will notice sign posts guiding you to the artwork.
There is a combination of a worn paths, with some of them being reasonably level. There are uneven surfaces throughout the park.

The sculpture, and the moors covered in the bits of wool that has shed from it!

Children of Smokeless Fire
After the Tower, take the downhill route to the next sculpture – Children of Smokeless Fire – it is identified by icons on posts.

At the bottom of the hill turn left and continue down the dirt track, past a post with an icon of a fairy, with wings, directing us to The Children of Smokeless Fire.

This is quite uneven, lumpy ground. There are lots of grassy tufts that are easy to trip over.

Each figure is made from steel that is bolted into the ground.

Muamba Posy
Head back on to the main track and turn left to follow the signs towards Muamba Posy.

99 Butterflies
To get to the final sculpture, turn your back on Muamba Posy, and head back up the hill the way you came.

Follow the signs for the butterflies and turn left.

These paths are very uneven and rocky. You cannot see the pond or sculpture until you reach the top of this path.

99 Butterflies can be found at the end of a short downward incline with a pond at the bottom. The ground is moderately flat, but uneven in places.
There are more than 60 marble butterflies of different shapes and sizes, which are on the ground.

Now head up to the bench you can see from the pond.

There is a post at the bench inviting you to listen to Kipepeo (Butterfly) – part of the Earth& Sky soundscape.
This overlooks the 99 Butterflies sculpture.

Route back to the car park
To get back to the car park, turn your back on the bench and turn left on the path.

Walk up the fairly level path towards the building.

After passing the building, follow the path along and you will reach the car park.
