Unseen: A Story of Joy, Movement & Community

”Unseen" is a documentary film created by Ascendance, a Yorkshire-based creative charity, in collaboration with Bradford filmmaker Pishdaad Modaressi as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.

Published: July 22, 2025

The film captures the extraordinary journeys of people living with Parkinson's and other neurological disorders in Bradford, empowering them as creative artists through dance and movement.

About Unseen

As part of a larger screen creative arts project, “Unseen” combines voice work, art, and movement to tell five different stories that highlight how culture can transform lives and prompt deeper conversations about accessibility in the arts. The documentary premiered at Victoria Hall during the Saltaire Arts Trail in May 2025, accompanied by a community artwork created in collaboration with artist Serena Nassini.

This film reflects Ascendance’s mission as a regional flagship for Dance with Parkinson’s work, demonstrating how their projects provide crucial community services that improve physical and mental wellbeing, coordination, and social cohesion through creative expression.

Beautiful. So lovely to see the light in everyone's eyes what it mean to be human and connecting us all
Incredible motivating and helping people realise still so much life and you can still enjoy things!
