Daytimers party people – we want your stories
Bradford 2025 is inviting everyone with memories of the 1980s Daytimers scene in Yorkshire to share their stories, photos, videos and memorabilia for an exciting new project as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
Made in collaboration with creative organisation Dialled In and immersive storytelling studio No Ghost, the project will bring together personal anecdotes, images and artefacts for an immersive installation celebrating the groundbreaking music scene which helped shape contemporary British South Asian culture. It explores and celebrates how young British South Asians carved out their own cultural spaces through daytime raves, creating a powerful form of resistance against both systemic racism and traditional expectations.
If you have a story to tell about the 1980s Daytimers scene, we want to hear it! From changing outfits at college, bunking lessons, boarding buses and dancing until the early evening to exploring how these spaces created community, solidarity, belonging and a common identity – and how it was a response to the National Front. The installation opens in Bradford in November as part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
