Bradford 2025, UK City of Culture, will close its landmark year with Brighter Still – a spectacular outdoor performance in Myrtle Park, Bingley. The event will bring together over 200 community and professional dancers, live music, spoken word, large-scale fire effects, and participatory moments, welcoming audiences of more than 5,000 each night.

These three placements in Sound, Lighting, and Stage Management provide hands-on learning in the final stages of production, rehearsals, and live performance delivery of a major outdoor cultural event.

Each internship runs for 8 days in December 2025, spanning late rehearsals, site build and tech, and the final performances on 20–21 December.

Sound Team Intern

Duration: 8 days
Reporting to: Head of Sound / Sound Designer / Lead Technician

Role summary:
Support the sound department in finalising, installing, testing, and operating audio systems for rehearsals and performances. Interns will assist with mic checks, speaker placement, cable runs, and shadow live mixing.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with cable runs, patching, and labelling.
  • Set up monitors, speakers, and support line/mic checks.
  • Maintain mic packs and batteries and mic running for the shows.
  • Shadow sound mixing and troubleshooting during live shows.
  • Assist with get-in/get-out and equipment maintenance.

Skills sought:

  • Basic knowledge of audio equipment.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
  • Interest in sound for theatre or live events.

Lighting Team Intern

Duration: 8 days
Reporting to: Head of Lighting / Lighting Designer / Chief Electrician

Role summary:
Assist the lighting team with rigging, focusing, programming, and running lighting during rehearsals and live shows. Interns will help install and maintain equipment and shadow operators during performances.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with rigging and focusing fixtures.
  • Support cable runs, patching, and labelling.
  • Assist with console programming and cue rehearsals.
  • Carry out maintenance checks (lamps, DMX, cleaning).
  • Support show operation and strike.

Skills sought:

  • Basic knowledge of lighting systems and confidence in basic electrical skills.
  • Good safety awareness and teamwork.
  • Interest in theatre lighting or live events.

  • Understanding of integrating lighting with choreography, set, and music.
Stage Management Intern

Duration: 8 days
Reporting to: Stage Manager / Deputy Stage Manager

Role summary:
Assist the stage management team with rehearsals, props, backstage flow, and cueing. Interns will support the coordination of a large intergenerational community cast and professional performers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support rehearsal room setup and props.
  • Distribute scripts and take rehearsal notes.
  • Assist with performer coordination and backstage calls.
  • Shadow DSM during cueing and show calling.
  • Help manage entrances, exits, and backstage safety.

Skills sought:

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Calm under pressure and adaptable.
  • Interest in stage management and live performance.

What you’ll gain:

  • First-hand experience of backstage operations in a large outdoor event.
  • Mentorship from professional stage management staff.
  • Exposure to rehearsal processes and live cueing.
