The Beacon – Lister Park
The Baton of Hope
The Baton of Hope is the UK’s largest ever suicide prevention initiative.
Handcrafted by Thomas Lyte, the official gold and silversmiths to the late Queen Elizabeth II and the FA Cup, the Baton of Hope's design is laden with poignant symbolism.
The Baton first toured the UK in 2023, carried by those affected by the suicide of a friend, colleague or relative. As the Baton was carried through Bradford in September 2025, it provided an opportunity to reflect and to highlight the importance of suicide awareness.
There is hope. If more people talk openly about mental health and suicide, spot the signs, ask the right questions, and listen without judgement, we can make a difference.
On it’s tour through Bradford, The Baton of Hope visited The Beacon in Lister Park, where it was met by friends and relatives of the Baton Bearers.
There were performances from Music Box, Sing Meanwood, Marina Josephina, The Singing Wardens of Lower Grange, Kauser Mukhtar & Qaiser Khan and the Solow Choir. Artist Katie Shepherd provided a creative activity designed to support those experiencing grief and loss.
