This commission is part of our Development Programme in our street art series BD: Walls, celebrating Bradford’s vibrant cultural identity and legacy.
This striking, colourful new mural, can be found at the Morrisons store in the Bradford suburb of Idle, as part of the BD:Walls Talent Development Programme. The programme is part of a partnership between Bradford 2025 and the Morrisons Foundation, which provided funding for the initiative.
BD: Walls
Serving the District is part of BD: Walls, a collection of new street art commissioned by Bradford 2025 for walls across Bradford District – paying vibrant tribute to our heritage while celebrating our dynamic street art culture.
About Serving the District
Blending photographic and illustrative styles with bold urban textures, the mural celebrates Bradford’s vibrant cultural identity and its legacy as a centre of innovation, creativity and community. Key elements of the design, created collaboratively by the artists on the programme, include a traditional market stall – a nod to Morrisons’ beginnings in Bradford, back when William Morrison first opened an egg and butter stall in the city’s Rawson Market in 1899.
The mural image shows fresh produce and livestock to reflect the district’s rich food culture, plus iconic local landmarks Bradford City Hall and Lister Mills, alongside elements symbolising the district’s South Asian community and the city’s celebration of being UK City of Culture 2025.
About the Artists
‘Serving the District’ is the work of a whole team of local artists. Through BD:Walls and a partnership with renowned street art collective Graffwerk, Bradford 2025 has equipped these local creatives with new skills, knowledge and opportunities in the street art industry, with some participants exploring this medium for the first time.
The mural is one of a series of new street art works being delivered across the district through the BD:Walls project. The initiative is designed to support and nurture emerging artists across the Bradford district.
