Pen Portraits – IT’S OUR TIME

Sudha Bhuchar

‘There’s no place like Bradford. Once you’re here, you don’t want to go anywhere else.’

A script-in-hand reading of “It’s Our Time”, a new work-in-progress by Sudha Bhuchar. She was an Artist in Residence with Bradford 2025 and Theatre in The Mill.

A self-confessed ‘magpie’, Sudha’s storytelling draws from everyday encounters and verbatim testimony. Following in the spirit of her acclaimed solo show Evening Conversations, she gathered inspiration from across Bradford: sharing chai on an allotment, joining Tai Chi and well-being sessions at Women’s Zone and Lister Mills, sitting in the back of a taxi, and talking to male nursing students.

This emerging work featured interwoven testimony and fiction and was performed by a cast of five, including Peter Singh, Madiha Ansari, and Sudha Bhuchar herself. It was followed by an informal Q&A and the opportunity to share feedback. The performance will lasted approximately one hour.

Sudha was recently honoured with the 2025 Sophiya Haque Award at the Asians in Media Awards for her outstanding contribution to television, film, and theatre.

An illustrated image - looking at the back of four peoples heads, two adults and two children. To the left of the image, there is a table with a model building upon it. There's lots of blues and blacks, with pops of orange, green and purple.
