Mapping Bradford’s History

Heritage Hub

A talk that celebrated a new publication unpicking the city's history.

A talk that celebrated the publication of Historic Towns Trust’s An Historical Map of Bradford, which tells the fascinating history of the city centre and the two conservation areas of Manningham and Little Germany.

The map itself is built on extensive research, drawing information from many archaeological and historical resources, brought together to illustrate the historical development of the city.

The talk highlighted how the maps were created and how the Bradford project was delivered, sharing stories and details that the publication has uncovered which surprised even the authors themselves, building up a new and more nuanced narrative of Bradford’s history.

Following the talk there was also a stall, activities and a small exhibition space, which provided more information about the project.

This event was part of Heritage Open Days, England’s largest festival of history and culture, and is presented by an organisation involved in Bradford 2025’s Elevate programme, which aims to strengthen, sustain and increase the agility of Bradford’s heritage sector.
