A new music video filmed in Bradford and released this week offers a first look at Cashy C’s: The Musical, a forthcoming site-specific theatre piece written by Bradford poet Kirsty Taylor and due to premiere in 2022.

Filmed exclusively on location in BD4 and led by rapper Ty Richards with a cast of local creatives and community members, the music video for the track ‘Live Like This’, which has been funded by Arts Council England, Bradford Council, Bradford 2025, Apples + Snakes and Jerwood Arts, is a new bassline anthem for Bradford.

The track is the first original song released from the upcoming production, which will tell the story of working-class people who live hand-to-mouth. Set in a Bradford pawnbroker and featuring an original score of grime, bassline and rap music produced by local artists, Cashy C’s: The Musical will be an interactive, promenade performance show.

For years Bradford has had a respected and prolific underground scene of rappers, MCs and beatmakers. The rappers capture and articulate the real lives of Bradford people: the funny bits, the hard bits, and everything in between, all delivered in the best Bratfud tones. For me, it was the only way to bring to life the people and stories of the district.”
