August's DRAW! theme

Draw a landscape with Kate Jackson

Kate Jackson asks us to draw a landscape – part of DRAW! supported by David Hockney.

Published: July 23, 2025

DRAW! supported by David Hockney is a nationwide project to get everyone drawing.

In August, artist Kate Jackson is encouraging us all to draw a landscape.

Kate Jackson is an artist specialising in contemporary landscape. For August’s DRAW! theme, Jackson is asking us all to pick up a pen or pencil and draw a landscape.

Whether it’s your favourite view, and imaginary landscape, or somewhere you’d love to visit, get drawing and share your landscape with us.

And if you’re looking for some inspiration, check out Kate Jackson’s own, original urban landscape drawing below, created for Bradford 2025. Follow Kate Jackson on Instagram.

A pencil drawing in black and white, with a pinky orange background. The drawing is off High Point, a brutalist concrete building in Bradford, with strong vertical lines.

I am so excited to have been asked to be part of Draw with David Hockney this month and would encourage anyone to pick up a pencil and sketch. There is no such thing as a good drawing or a bad drawing, it is about your way of seeing and interpreting the world around you. This month the theme is landscape and that can be an urban landscape or a rural landscape, an interior landscape or a surreal dreamscape. Drawing is simply a joy. When you are focussed on a drawing, you are truly present in the moment.

Feeling inspired?
