Wuthering Heights [35mm]

Andrea Arnold, 2011

Andrea Arnold’s elemental take on Emily Bronte’s masterful novel. With introduction from writer and critic Kate Stables.

Director Andrea Arnold brings Emily Brontë’s novel to vivid life in this raw and brilliant adaptation, shot on location on the Yorkshire Moors.

A Yorkshire hill farmer on a visit to Liverpool finds a homeless boy on the streets. He takes him home to live as part of his family on the isolated Yorkshire moors, where the boy forges an obsessive relationship with the farmer’s daughter.

This raw and gritty version of Emily Brontë’s classic novel is ruthlessly brought down to its essential roots and presents us with an adaptation that’s startlingly original and completely unforgettable.
