The Beacon – Lister Park

Tent of Hope: An Evening of Stories and Music

A warm, welcoming and intimate evening of storytelling from around the world.

We enjoyed stories inspired by friendship, faith, belief, love and community, rounded off with magical music from the brilliant Bradford Friendship Choir.

Our Storytellers Jumana Moon and Tim Ralphs took us on a captivating and inspiring journey of uplifting stories in the atmospheric setting of The Beacon in Lister Park.

Jumana Moon is a traditional storyteller, with a special love for stories from Islamic tradition. She tells stories from Quran, Hadeeth & Seerah stories as well as from the wealth of traditional folktales, wonder tales and wisdom tales.

Tim Ralphs’ storytelling is rooted in the oral tradition: The craft of a speaker weaving language and gesture to entrance an audience and bring a tale to life. Tim gained much acclaim at The Young Storyteller of the Year competition in 2007, and was a British Award for Storytelling Excellence winner in 2012.

Bradford Friendship Choir is a joyful choir for those seeking sanctuary and their friends and allies, based here in the District.

This event was part of Tent of Hope – a day bringing together people of all faiths and none to reflect, connect, and celebrate Bradford’s rich diversity.

Our Patch

This project was funded by Our Patch.

Our Patch is a year-long arts programme across Bradford in 2025, inviting community groups and residents to design and take part in free workshops, activities and events in their local area. Led by local ‘Our Patch Producers’ alongside artists and makers, the project will bring people together through creative experiences ranging from painting and poetry to dancing, cooking and gardening. Taking place in community halls, libraries, faith spaces and social hubs across Bradford East, Bradford South, Bradford West, Keighley & Ilkley and Shipley, Our Patch celebrates local culture while helping people learn skills, build confidence and make new connections. This is Our Patch.

Our Patch is funded by The Esmee Fairbairn Foundation and The National Lottery Community Fund. We extend our thanks to all players of the National Lottery.
