We’re teaming up with our friends at the National Literacy Trust in Bradford to bring the magic of storytelling to Wibsey Park.

Join us on board the Bradford Stories Bus, a classic American school bus transformed into an inspiring space for reading, writing and storytelling.

On Board at The Beacon features a full day of free drop-in story workshops and activities for children aged 5–11. Could you be a poet – or would you rather be a rapper? Would you like to write a novel – or are you hoping to create your own comic book? Whatever your tastes, we’ve got your ticket into a world of stories. Simply come along and share your story.

Schedule

  • All day – Story Stations
    Drop into the National Literacy Trust in Bradford’s story stations throughout the day for a range of story sharing activities using arts, crafts and photographs. You’ll have the chance to add your own stories to our Share Your Story map as well as create your own story sharing props to go along with popular book titles.
  • 10-11am – Early Years Master Story-Teller Immersion
    Suitable for children aged 3-5.
    Explore how you can make books and stories more exciting for your children at home.
  • 11.30am-12.30pm – Mother-tongue stories with Nabeela Ahmed
    Suitable for children aged 5-11.
    Story telling activity for you and your children. Listen to a story inspired by culture and tradition. Discover how you can share your stories in your mother language.
  • 1-2.30pm – Graphic novel and comic workshop with artist Naureen Khwaja
    Suitable for children aged 7-11.
    Learn how you can transform your story into graphic art or a comic under the expert guidance of Naureen Khwaja.
  • 3-4.30pm – Rap Poetry with Imran Hafeez and Jayce Lambert
    Suitable for young people aged 7-14.
    Listen to inspiring performance poetry and discover how you can create your own rap songs.

The Beacon is a custom-made touring venue for Bradford 2025.

From Thursday 3 April to Monday 5 May 2025, The Beacon will be in Wibsey Park.
