Holocene

Ailís Ní Ríain, Onyx Brass and Hammonds Band

A reimagining of the contemporary brass ensemble with a bold and unconventional work exploring our current geological epoch.

Holocene explored the interplay between multiple tiers of sound while creating a detailed tapestry of sonic nuance that is intricate, earthy and mysterious.

A piece which explored the influence of time in the shimmering resonance of bowed and struck cymbals and vocalisation.

Composed by Ailís Ní Ríain and performed with Hammonds Band.

Genre: Classical contemporary

About this event

All events across New Music Biennial 2025 were free.

Events included two performances of the same work and a short interview with the creative team in between the two. This enabled audiences to experience the second performance with greater insight into the creative process.

About New Music Biennial
