Bradford Roots: Legacy in Focus

Facilitated by Sinead Campbell

A creative workshop Inspired by Bradford’s African Caribbean community

Event Details
Date 6 May 2025
Times 11am-1pm

Join us for a special workshop that connects with Frontline 1984/1985, an exhibition capturing the essence of Bradford’s African Caribbean communities through the lens of photographer Victor Wedderburn.

These powerful images evoke life in the 80s, from sound system parties to anti-apartheid marches, showcasing moments that are sometimes forgotten in the city’s history. This workshop offers an opportunity to connect with these memories and explore the lived experiences of those who shaped Bradford’s culture.

Facilitated by Sinead Campbell, singer-songwriter, Bradford’s Music Lead, and creative well-being coach, this workshop is rooted in Sinead’s personal journey of rediscovery as a dual heritage (Irish Jamaican) woman. It is a space where participants can reflect on their own memories, share stories and co create a powerful message to leave behind for future generations.

What to Expect

  • Connection & Conversation: Begin with time to chat, reconnect with familiar faces, and engage with the exhibition. Music will play a role in sparking happy memories.
  • Reflection: Reflect on memories with prompts focused on food, fashion, music, and culture. You’ll recall happy moments, things you are proud of, and your connection to your heritage.
  • Empowerment & Legacy: Together, we’ll craft empowering messages, whether in song, poetry, or affirmations, to be displayed in the exhibition. Whatever the group feels comfortable with. These messages are to inspire the younger generations.
  • A Safe and Celebratory Space: Sinead will guide you with care, making sure everyone feels seen, respected, and celebrated. Participants don’t have to do anything they’re not comfortable with. This workshop is an opportunity to share your creativity and contribute to a beautiful collective experience.
  • The workshop will conclude with a shared meal.

This workshop is an opportunity to reminisce on the past, and leave a meaningful message for the future.
